Getting a Belleville drawbar to release reliably requires several things: 1) Sufficient compression of the spring stack - this typically needs to be about 0.05" more than required to get it to release once. 2) Sufficient down-force on the spindle to get the collet "popped" free from the taper.

I bet it paid for itself the first month. Totally trouble free for years now. No key in the quill since the mid 80's. Remove it with 3 1/4" bolts, swap the drawbar and your angle drive goes right on.
